The world of Indian cricket featuring star players like Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni among others, plays the muse for a new exhibition of paintings in New Delhi.

Vadodara-based artist Uday Mondal in his solo show titled “The Champions” that opens at Triveni Kala Sangam’s Shridharani Gallery showcases acrylic on canvas depictions of some of India’s top cricketers.

The unforgettable moment of Sourav Ganguly removing his shirt in celebration at the Lord’s stadium in 2002 after India’s win against England has been captured in detail in Mondal’s canvas.

Similarly, Sachin Tendulkar exulting after crossing a milestone, Kapil Dev in action in the 1983 match against Zimbabwe that won India its first World Cup as well as a jubilant Yuvraj in another World Cup win have all been captured in colour.

“I only watch matches where the Indian team plays so painting them comes naturally to me. They are heroes to millions of people including me and the only way I can reciprocate my love for them is by featuring them in my art,” says Mondal who says he is also a fan of cricket. (PTI)
