Sachin Tendulkar responds to plea, donates Rs 76 lakh for building school in West Bengal village

Sachin Tendulkar, after his illustrious career, has now taken on his duty as an honourable Member of Parliament (MP), Rajya Sabha and is excelling in that field as well. Recently, a school in a rural are in West Bengal had written a letter to Tendulkar asking for his help to build a school in the area and the cricketer replied in the best way possible. Tendulkar donated the money he is issued for Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund, which totals around  whoping Rs 76 lakhs, and the school is benefited as it gets a brand new building for the students. Head Master of Gobindapur Makrampur Swarnamoyee Sasmal Sikhsa Niketan, Uttam Kumar Mohanti, had no high hopes to get any response from the high-profile cricketer but still wrote a letter describing the condition of the school. Situated in Narayangarh near NH 60, the school was established back in 1965. The building needed a renovation and since 2013, Mohanti has been trying his hands at every possible source and was turned down by everyone, including the local councillor Prabodh Panda.

Add Cricket Country as a Preferred Source

Being a big fan of Tendulkar himself and having known the fact that Tendulkar was appointed as an MP by the President himself, which lets him utilise the MPLAD money anywhere in the country, the Head Master thought of writing to the cricketer. Tendulkar reverted with a letter on August 7, 2014 with a nod to Mohanti’s appeal, assuring him to donate a total of Rs 76 lakhs and by September, 2015, the school’s account was credited with 75 per cent of the money. Having been able to start the much-needed renovation of the school building, Mohanti now cannot help but hope of Master Blaster turning up for the inauguration of the new building.
