Cricket Australia (CA) eagerly wants India’s batting great Sachin Tendulkar to play in the ODIs to make the ensuing triangular series, also involving Sri Lanka, a commercial success.

The triangular ODI series have been introduced by the CA for the first time since 2007-08, when India and Sri Lanka were also involved. Each team will play each other four times through February before reaching the finals in March.

The Indian squad for the ODI series will be picked Sunday in Chennai and if Tendulkar finds a place in the squad it would be godsend opportunity for CA. It would be a double delight for the organisers if the Tendulkar fails to get the much awaited 100th international century in the Test series and continues to chase it during the ODIs.

“The triangular series is tried and true and popular. We would love to see Tendulkar’s name in the one-day side,” CA public affairs manager Peter Young was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.

“He is just an absolute drawcard. If we go through the Test series without him making the hundred there is also the enticement of that extra issue that’s been following him around all summer as well,” he said.

The series is a lucrative property for CA in terms of commercial TV rights. CA feels Tendulkar’s presence will be a great advertisement for the series and they are also confident that it can be a success domestically.(IANS)
