Sachin Tendulkar tells Virat Kohli he wants to play

Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli share quite a touching bond. Kohli has stated on numerous occasions that Tendulkar was a mentor to him, while India’s leading Test and One-Day Internationals (ODI) run-scorer has also shared his liking of Kohli as a cricketer and a person. So when Tendulkar tweeted to Kohli telling him that he wants “to play” it raised the eyebrows of a lot of people. Kohli recently acquired an International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) team called UAE Royals, whose star player is the Swiss great Roger Federer. Tendulkar is a long-time friend and admirer of Federer, and his tweet could be a nod to the fact that he would love to play alongside Federer in Kohli’s team.

Tendulkar is arguably the most well-known cricketer in the world, while Kohli is immensely popular in India as well. For as long as Tendulkar was an active cricketer, his fan following bordered on the insane, with a number of his supporters christening him “The God of Cricket.” Kohli too has his hardcore fans, many of whom admire his aggression and fighting spirit. One common point between both men is their intense love for their country and a strict work ethic. It was said of Tendulkar that his genius consisted more of hard work than just talent. His childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar would put a coin on Tendulkar’s stumps as a child, and every time Tendulkar finished a net session without being dismissed he would earn that coin.
