Ajit played a huge role in the development of Tendulkar as a batsman. At a young age, he took him to Ramakant Achrekar, a coach in Mumbai. Since then, Tendulkar has always discussed his batting and technique with his brother.
Speaking at a function earlier this year, Ajit had said, “There was one instance when he played for 10 consecutive days. At no stage he said he was tired or gave an impression that he was tired. I remember the dialogue before in under-15 zonal tournament. He asked what next? I said you may make in West Zone team. He went on asking and I went on saying he may be picked for a higher ground. It did happen and he played in every age group in 1986-87. At the end then he was in the Mumbai probables at 14.”
