Sachin Tendulkar’s favourite food, vada pav, got a day all to itself on August 23. A leading vada pav franchise announced the day as “National vada pav Day,” due to its popularity among celebrities and the general public alike.

Tendulkar’s love of vada pav is quite well documented. The batting maestro has said on multiple occasions that he loves the savory ‘Indian burger,’ and that he still eats it every now and then. Tendulkar’s love for vada pav is so great, his childhood friend Vinod Kambli actually gifted him 35 vada pavs when Tendulkar overtook Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 34 Test tons.

According to a report in DNA, Tendulkar once said, “I and my son [Arjun] love to eat vada-pav at Shivaji Park Gymkhana (Shivaji Park is where he played and trained as a budding cricketer) and there is nothing that can beat this snack, laced with ‘chatni’. The taste of vada-pav continues to linger in the mouth.”
