Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to explore Sachin Tendulkar’s concept of fielding more than 11 players in a game in junior cricket, suggested a couple of years back. Tendulkar’s concept was to have 15-a-side games in inter-school and college cricket to ensure that all kids, who arrive for the game from different from far-off cities, enjoy equal participation. MCA had rejected the concept a year back. With a push from the former India skipper and MCA Vice-President Dilip Vengsarakar, the association seems to have had a rethink about the issue. As mentioned on cricbuzz.com, after a lengthy meeting on Saturday, the managing committee decided to try out 13-a-side game for the Under-14 tournament which begins from Monday. Only 11 players will be allowed for the game, while the remaining two can be used as substitutes at any point in the game, which involved two innings and two days. It also means that the coaches can train seven batsman for batting and six bowlers for fielding.

In the absence of MCA President Sharad Pawar, Vengsarkar said, “A few months ago when Tendulkar discussed this idea with me, I thought of implementing it on an experimental basis for the Under-14 and the newly-introduced Under-12 tournaments. I’m glad the other managing committee members were on the same page as me.” On the concept being implemented, a delighted Tendulkar said, “I’m happy that the youngsters will be getting more opportunities. I remember suggesting this couple of years ago to the MCA that we should try and get as many youngsters to play cricket and give them match opportunities. I am glad it is happening and I feel it will be good for Mumbai cricket.” ALSO READ: Dilip Vengsarkar appointed honorary director of National Cricket Academy

The association has reduced the ban to one year from two years on Indian Navy for indulging in on-field violence during a Time Shield game earlier this month. However, the players who featured in the game will remain banned for two years. This decision was to ensure that it’s the erring players and not the team who suffers for the indiscipline act.
