Sachin’s Blasters restricted to 140/8 by classic Warne’s Warriors in first Cricket All Stars T20 at Citi Field, New York

Virender Sehwag took full account of the rusty fast bowlers of the Warne’s Warriors team by smashing them to all parts of the Citi Field stadium. He followed his ‘see ball, hit ball’ principle to the tea even as Sachin Tendulkar played some classy shots at the other end. He was in mood to destroy everything and barely spared any bowler! He got to his fifty with a six of Shane Warne in the 20th ball of his innings. Thankfully for the Warriors, Daniel Vettori brought an end to Sehwag’s blitz by bowling him through the gate. Tendulkar was the first wicket to fall and it was to opposing captain Warne that he fell but the wicket was more to the credit of Jacques Kallis who took a brilliant catch at mid off of a mistimed Tendulkar pull shot. The openers scored their runs at over 10 runs per over but things started to better for the Warriors when the spinners came on.

Warne went on to dismiss Brian Lara and VVS Laxman cheaply and exhibited typical guile and even hit the right areas with a fair bit of turn. Vettori finished his spell with only one wicket but it was arguably the most important in context of the game, to add to that Vettori conceded just 13 runs in his four overs.

After them, Andrew Symonds made the important breakthrough of Mahela Jayawardene who was looking to come into his own. He then got rid of Carl Hooper lbw with a smart variation. Symonds even got some drift and unexpected turn. He then also got rid of Moin Khan. Among the fast bowlers, Wasim Akram was most impressive and bowled with great accuracy, not allowing too many runs to the batsmen.
