Saeed Ajmal eyeing international comeback despite farewell rumours

Pakistan‘s discarded spinner Saeed Ajmal is eyeing his much delayed return to international cricket, despite the rumours surfacing that he might be given a farewell, which was triggered following a tweet from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi. Seth responded to a fans call on Saturday, stating that if a proper and fitting farewell could be given to great players like Shahid Afridi or Ajmal, while he also stated that he would be holding talks with the duo soon to take their call on their future. Ajmal has not played international cricket for Pakistan for the past one and a half years, but is in a desperate attempt to make his comeback in the side.

He emerged as the highest wicket-taker for Karachi Blues, in the just concluded National Twenty20 cup, with 20 scalps, as he has requested for one final chance for a spot in the national side, and has also said that he would be willing to leave the game on his own terms, if he fails to deliver this time. “I have no intention to quit one-day or Twenty20 cricket at the moment. I have worked really hard to stage a comeback and my performance in the National T20 Cup reflects that. I have proved my fitness in the National T20 Cup. I should be given a chance. If I fail to perform, I will walk away myself. The Board doesn’t have a decent off-spinner in its entire domestic structure,” Ajmal was quoted saying by Dawn.

Add Cricket Country as a Preferred Source

In the National Twenty20 cup, Ajmal has managed a glorious economy rate of just 6.28, as he also played a crucial role in his sides title win, while also suggesting that he could be back in his best shape and form. However, he was denied a contract for the 2016-17 season, following his comeback to the international side with a remodelled action, as he failed to make an impact, eventually losing his spot in the side. As of now, Ajmal is very keen to play domestic cricket, and has asked the PCB to take a lesson from West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), and give him another go. “I have proved my form and fitness,” he said. “I am not quitting and will keep on playing domestic cricket. I have played a key role in so many victories; the board should give me a chance like the West Indies are giving to Sunil Narine,” he concluded.
