Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal retained the top place in the recently released International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day international (ODI) rankings for bowlers, despite having left his country’s most recent tour in order to undergo testing on a suspected illegal action.
The 36-year-old was reported during Pakistan’s Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle for a second time in his career over his doosra, having previously undergone extensive testing in 2009 before being cleared. It is now just over two weeks since Ajmal was underwent testing at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, and the outcome from those tests is expected imminently.
Among other bowlers, West Indian spinner Sunil Narine continues to occupy second place, while Dale Steyn’s strong series sees him move up one place to third, and outside the top 10, India’s Mohammad Shami was the biggest climber, up eight places from 29th to 21st.
