Samuel Badree ruled out of T20I series vs Sri Lanka due to dengue

West Indies leg –spinner Samuel Badree was ruled out of the upcoming two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka due to dengue fever and will be replaced by another leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo. The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) revealed the Badree’s news on Thursday as they sent out a press release. “Badree was named in the original 15-man squad for the two-match series but is unavailable due to illness,” the release said. He fell ill in the Caribbean and did not fly to Sri Lanka with the other players of the T20I squad that includes Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo. Scorecard: Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 2nd ODI at Colombo (RPS)

Meanwhile, Bishoo who played both the Tests which the Windies lost to the hosts was not included for the limited-overs team but now he will remain with the side till the end of the tour. Badree who is the top-ranked T20I bowler, will be missed by the visitor, who desperately want to bounce back after the whitewash in the Tests. The 2012 ICC World T20 won by the West Indies beating Sri Lanka in their home turf had a huge contribution by Badree and that shows his influence in the side.

With Sri Lanka having sealed the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series as well with a victory in the first two games, they are successfully making a great recovery at home after a bad patch they went through recently. Pakistan beat them in both Tests and ODIs when they toured Lanka recently.
