Sanath Jayasuriya is currently suffering from severe physical conditions, being unable to move without crutches. The Sri Lankan all-rounder has been facing problems with his knee for quite some time now and will reportedly get a surgery done soon, in Melbourne. He is supposed to travel to Australia in the first week of January and the procedure will take almost a month to see him fully fit again.

Since his retirement in 2011, Jayasuriya has served the Sri Lanka Cricket board twice, as the Selection Committee Chairman and stepped down in August 2017. In his illustrious career, Jayasuriya has scored 6973 runs and taken 98 wickets. In ODIs, he scored 13,430 runs and picked up  323 wickets. In T20Is, he has 629 runs and 19 wickets.

Though his cricketing career was successful, his career as a selection committee member as well as off-field life has been quite controversial. The selection committee led by Jayasuriya was criticised majorly for Sri Lanka’s failure against South Africa and India in 2017, and as a consequence, they had to step down from their posts.
