Sarfaraz Khan century
Sarfaraz Khan has earned a fresh chance to revive his white-ball career with a stunning run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). The Indian batter, who last played for India on November 1, 2024, has been in sensational form for Mumbai.
Sarfaraz record-breaking century against Goa
In the fourth round of matches, Sarfaraz smashed a breathtaking 157 off just 75 balls against Goa, registering the fastest List-A century for Mumbai. He reached his hundred in only 56 balls, breaking Rohit Sharmaâs record.
Rohit had set the previous mark just last week with a 62-ball century against Sikkim and went on to score 155 off 94 balls in that match. Sarfaraz bettered the record in style on a day when several fringe players made strong statements.
Sarfarazâs talent in red-ball cricket is well known. He averages 63.15 in first-class cricket, with 16 centuries and 16 fifties to his name. However, it was in T20 cricket where he first grabbed attention. He was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2015, and at just 17 years old, became the youngest player to feature in the IPL at the time.
His fearlessA and innovative batting quickly made him a fan favorite, but his white-ball career later lost momentum. That phase now appears to be behind him.
Following a remarkable improvement in fitness, Sarfaraz has transformed himself into a strong contender across all formats. He recently enjoyed a brilliant Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) campaign for Mumbai, scoring 329 runs at an average of 65.80 and an incredible strike rate of 203.09. His performances earned him an IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Mumbai post massive List-A total
In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Sarfaraz has scored 220 runs at an average of 110.00, with a strike rate above 170. On New Yearâs Eve, he tore into the Goa bowling attack, smashing 14 sixes and 9 boundaries at a strike rate close to 210-remarkable numbers in the 50-over format.
