Sarfaraz Khan received his first call-up to the Indian team for the second Test against England, replacing KL Rahul, who was sidelined due to right quadriceps pain after scoring 86 in the previous match. Sarfaraz’s selection follows his outstanding performance in the unofficial Test against England Lions, where he scored 161 runs and earned the Player of the Match award.
The 26-year-old has consistently impressed with his performances in first-class cricket, accumulating 3912 runs in 45 red-ball matches at an impressive average of 69.85, including 14 centuries and 11 fifties. Suryakumar Yadav, his Mumbai teammate, congratulated Sarfaraz on social media after the announcement.
Ravindra Jadeja, who suffered a hamstring injury in the first Test, is also ruled out. In response, the selectors added left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar and all-rounder Washington Sundar to the squad.
With Rahul’s absence, Shreyas Iyer is expected to take the No. 4 spot, and the choice between Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan will determine the No. 5 position. Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid may consider both players if they decide to replace Jadeja with Kuldeep Yadav.
