Sean Abbott and Mitchell Starc, who play for Sydney University and Western Suburbs respectively in the Sydney Grade Cricket tournament have opted out of the weekend’s fixture. Phillip Hughes was part of the Western Suburbs team when he moved to Sydney from his hometown of Macksville. Abbott and Hughes were teammates in the New South Wales (NSW) side as well as Australia’s limited overs side. The made their T20I debuts together against Pakistan in UAE.

Since Hughes’ passing, the cricket fraternity has rallied behind Abbott and showing their support. Abbott in fact underwent therapy to help him overcome this tragedy. Abbott’s side NSW will resume their Sheffield Shield game from December 9 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the same ground where Hughes’ was struck by that unfortunate bouncer. The team will meet on December 7 to confirm their availability for the game, according to cricket.com.au

Whether or not Abbott confirms his participation in the further matches is yet to be seen.
