Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri praised Australian batter Steve smith as he crossed 10,000 runs during the first Test match against Sri Lanka. With this, Smith became the fourth Australian batter to reach this milestone.
Ravi Shastri believes that Smith knows how to adapt to different conditions, adding that he finds some sort of way to score runs even when he is not at his best.
âIâve seen all these hundreds as a coach and as a broadcaster and heâs a special player. Heâs so passionate about the game. What amazes me is how heâs prepared to adapt to different conditions. He got a hundred on a rank turner in India, which was special. And even when heâs not at his best, he finds ways to get into positions to score runs. When youâre around for that length of time, there are teams analysing you, there are video analysts looking at every part of your technique. And then to still be able to be ahead of the curve â and he will average over 55 â at the age of 35, to go past 10,000 runs is special. So I think heâs a great player,â Shastri told Fox Cricket.
Smith was a pert of Australia’s squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, and was on 9999 runs before the Test series against Sri Lanka. He achieved the feat right before the lunch break on Day 1 of the Test match.
