Shaheen Afridi and 2 other Pakistan stars fined by ICC for ‘immature’ behaviour in South Africa ODI
ICC fines Shaheen, Shakeel and Ghulam following ODI against South Africa
Pakistan secured a monumental victory over South Africa in Karachi on Wednesday as they chased down the mammoth total of 353 runs. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha were the star performers for the Men in Green during the match, playing superb knocks of 122 and 134 runs respectively.
However, there was another part of the match which also garnered a lot of attention. In the first innings, several Pakistan players like Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam celebrated aggressively against South African batters.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to take action against the behaviour of the 3 Pakistan stars during the one-day match against South Africa. They imposed a match fee fine of 25 per cent for Shaheen while Shakeel and Ghulam were fined 10 per cent each of their match fees.
“ICC has imposed fines on the three players for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their tri-nation series match against South Africa in Karachi on Wednesday,” ICC said in a release.
“Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching Article 2.12 of the Code, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match,” ICC added.
The incident involving Shaheen occurred during the 28th over when he bumped into South Africa batter Matthew Breetzke while the latter was taking a run. This later resulted in a heated exchange between the duo as well.
The other incident occurred in the 29th over when Shakeel and substitute fielder Ghulam celebrated too closely to batter Temba Bavuma following his run-out.
“Both players (Shakeel and Ghulam) were found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the Code, which relates to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match,” ICC said.
