Shahid Afridi has been appointed the captain of the Pakistan T20 side. Mohammad Hafeez had resigned from the captaincy after the unsuccessful ICC World T20 2014. Afridi thus comes back for a second stint as captain of Pakistan, albeit in the shortest format. There have been a lot of calls to appoint Afridi as one-day captain as well, but for now, he has only been given the reins for T20 cricket. Sohaib Maqsood was one of the candidates but the experienced Afridi beat him in the race.

Afridi captained Pakistan in 2010 and 2011. He also led then in one Test match before giving up the format all together. However, his captaincy in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) proved successful as he helped them win a series in New Zealand, West Indies and the team also made it through to the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2011.
