Melbourne: Australian spin great Shane Warne‘s desire to have the upcoming Boxing Day Test against West Indies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MSG) converted into a day and night encounter has been rejected by Cricket Australia (CA). Cricket Australia chairman James Sutherland said there is no chance of shifting the format this year and added that it is unlikely in the future as well. Sutherland, however, said he would try to schedule at least one day-night Test next summer,News.com.au reported. Earlier, 46-year-old Warne tweeted, “Dear CA, Can we make the Boxing Day Test against the West Indies a day night Test please, how good would that be ! Agree followers?”

Earlier,Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland admitted that they are keen on having more number of day-night Tests in future. Pakistan is set to tour Down Under next summer and there are chances they might play the next pink ball match. Sutherland also suggested that the feedback of the inaugural day-night Test which is underway at Adelaide between Australia and New Zealand at the moment has been “glowing.” He believes all future Adelaide Test matches could be day-nighters, adding that Brisbane is also a “good option” for the concept. Australia leads the ongoing 3-Test series 1-0 after winning the opening game and drawing the next at Perth.
