Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is expected to play the One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa after suffering a slight hip strain and missing the second Twenty20 international in Johannesburg.

Australian captain Cameron White was quoted in Herald Sun as saying, “Look he wasn’t flash yesterday. There’s an important one-day series coming up and obviously the Tests and he’s a massive part of that.

“So if there’s any doubt you probably just don’t play those guys.”

White also lauded efforts of some of the younger players in the team despite the loss against South Africa in a thrilling encounter on Sunday. White particularly praised young Patrick Cummins for his bowling efforts.

“He can hold his head up high. It’s his second game at this level. He’s clearly a fantastic prospect and that game again showed what kind of skill he has,” he said.

“He’s great up front and he would have learnt a lot from his last couple of overs. There will be a lot of learning from our side and we’ll be better for the experience,” he added.
