Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson blasted a brilliant century as former champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR) finished on 199 for the loss of six wickets, against defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 54 of the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Earlier, RR skipper, Steven Smith won the toss and elected to bat first on a flat batting track at Brabourne. He made three changes with Pravin Tambe, Rajat Bhatia and Ankit Sharma being replaced by debutante, Brainder Sran, Dhawal Kulkarni and Stuart Binny, while KKR skipper, Gautam Gambhir makes a chnage in the form of Azhar Mahmood, coming in for Sunil Narine. The openers for RR in the form of Ajinkya Rahane and Shane Watson were off to an explosive start as they went after the KKR bowlers right from the opening over as they brought up the opening 50-run stand within 4.3 overs, with Rahane contributing 24 and Watson contributing 22, along with four extras.

Both the openers later went on to put-up an 80-run stand, till the partnership was finally broken in the seventh over with Rahane being run out for 37 by Shakib Al Hasan. He also scored his 3,000 IPL runs in the process. Out came skipper, Smith and along with Watson put up a healthy 30-run stand, before being dismissed in the 11th over for 14 at the score of 110 by all-rounder, Andre Russell off a full-toss, which was played straight to Morne Morkel at fine leg. Sanju Samson made his way in and with just 12 runs added to the total, he too fell cheaply for just eight to Russell again after being caught by Gambhir at point. Out came all-rounder James Faulkner and together with Watson put up an 18-run stand, as Watson scored his 15th IPL half-century, and also completed his 4,000 runs in T20 cricket.

At the score of 140 in the 15th over, it was Faulkner, who too departed for mere six after handing a high, but easy catch to Suryakumar Yadav at mid-wicket while going for an ambitious shot. It led to the arrival of Karun Nair, and along with Watson, it contributed to 40 surplus runs, before Nair fell to fast-bowler, Umesh Yadav after being caught behind by Robin Uthappa for 16 at the score of 180.

Out came Chris Morris to play the remaining couple of overs, as Watson scored his 2nd IPL century in 57 deliveries, including nine boundaries and five huge sixes, along with a strike-rate of 178.94. The pair ended up contributing 19 runs, as RR finished at the score of 199, setting a target of 200 for KKR to win this all-important encounter.
