Sharad Pawar, a police constable, was injured after accidentally getting shot by his carbine gun during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.

According to an article on Mid-Day, Pawar, who hails from Shivajinagar, was assigned to escort the RCB team, when the gun was believed to have fallen from his shoulder and went off. A case of negligence while handling a weapon was filed at the Talegaon-Dabhade Police Station on Thursday.

“Pawar was given responsibility to escort the RCB team from hotel to the stadium and was given a carbine gun for the same purpose. Later, he was also asked to patrol the VVIP points including seven to 12 number gate,” Inspector Vasant Babar of the Talegaon police station was quoted as saying. “As the match had already begun, there was a loud noise near the escort gate. Pawar was found to be injured. He claimed that the sling which was attached to his gun broke due to which it fell down and the bullet brushed his right leg. IPL 2015: Complete Coverage

“He was immediately rushed to hospital and is now out of danger,” added Pawar.
