Australian opener Shaun Marsh was added to the squad that will take on India in the four-match Test series starting from December 9 at Adelaide. The left-hander last played a Test in February 2014, against hosts South Africa.

According to cricket.com.au, a Cricket Australia (CA) statement said, “The National Selection Panel has today advised that West Australian Shaun Marsh has been added to the Test squad as an additional batsman for the first Commonwealth Bank Test. The Australian Test squad will assemble in Adelaide today and tomorrow ahead of the first Test starting on Tuesday 9 December.” Marsh also has a chance to feature alongside his younger brother Mitchell, which will make them the first set of brothers to play Test cricket for Australia since Steve and Mark Waugh.

Sadly, it is Phillip Hughes’ tragic demise which has opened the door for Marsh’s selection. While doubts still remain over skipper Michael Clarke’s fitness, the inclusion of Marsh as cover means that he might get to play a Test after almost 10 months.

Australia squad: Michael Clarke(c), Brad Haddin(wk), Ryan Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Steve Smith, David Warner, Shane Watson.
