England captain Alastair Cook will play his 100th Test against Australia at Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) ground. He became the 10th English player to reach the milestone of playing 100 Tests. The first Englishman to achieve that monumental feat was Sir Colin Cowdrey in 1968. The second player from England to reach the landmark was Geoffrey Boycott in 1981.
As Michael Clarke too is playing his 100th Test at WACA, one saw for the first time in the annals of cricket, captains from opposing teams playing 100 Tests in the same match. Cook made his Test debut against India at Nagpur in 2006. In his very first Test, he essayed a century on his debut.
Cook is the fastest to reach this coveted landmark in terms of age. Indiaâs batting legend; Sachin Tendulkar held the previous record. He was 29 years and 134 days when he reached the memorable feat against England at Oval in 2002.
Incidentally, Cook also holds the record for the highest number of hundreds in Test cricket by an Englishman.
