Shikha Pandey bags first wicket during Pakistan’s chase of 97 vs India in Group B match of Women’s T20 World Cup 2016 at Delhi

Shikha Pandey made the first breakthrough for India when she dismissed Nahida Khan in her first over against Pakistan in iCC Women’s World T20 2016, Group B match. The Indians were restricted at 96 for 7 in 20 overs. Nahida faced the first delivery of Pakistan’s chase and in no time she went after India’s Anuja Patil in the first over with two back to back boundaries, immediately putting pressure on the spinner. Nahida who had been playing loose shots once again tried for a big one but managed to hit the inswinger from Shikha till the mid on where Harmanpreet Kaur completed a catch. That dismissal left Pakistan at 19 for 1 from 3 overs, still needed another 78 runs off 17 overs.

Jhulan Goswami, the spearhead of Team India was handed the ball only in the 4th over and as expected the experienced bowler gave away just one run, for once taking off a little pressure from the Indian side. The next over from Shikha however was an expensive one with Sidra Ameen smashing her for two boundaries.

Earlier, an excellent bowling effort from Pakistan restricted India at 96 for 7 in 20 overs during their Group B match of ICC Women’s World T20 2016 at Delhi on Saturday. Barring Bismah Maroof, all the other Pakistani bowlers—Anam Ami, Sana Mir, Asmavia Iqbal, Sadia Yousuf and Nida Dar—picked a wicket each. India’s Veda Krishnamurthy top-scored with her knock of 24 off 19 balls and her inning was inclusive of three boundaries.
