India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been in top form in the ongoing ODI series versus South Africa. He batted with positive intent in the Test series but was dropped after the first match. Nonetheless, the ODI giant upped the ante in his most-preferred format and already has two fifties from three outings. He will, however, want make a big score under his belt in the fourth ODI at Johannesburg. The ODI, the Pink Day match, is special for the left-hander. He completes 100 appearances in the 50-over format.

Dhawan made his ODI debut in October 2010 during a home series versus Australia. It wasn’t a dream start as the opener perished on the first ball off by Client McKay. It was also the match wherein Virat Kohli slammed his first international century.

However, owing to a good run in IPL 2013, Dhawan was given the nod in 2013 Champions Trophy. Since then, he made the opening slot his own along with Rohit Sharma. Dhawan has 18 international hundreds 66.67 per cent coming in ODIs. Dhawan brings out his best in ICC events, being the top run-scorer in 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy editions. In addition, Dhawan was India’s highest run-getter in 2015 World Cup.

Dhawan becomes the 14th Indian to play 100 matches or more. He joins the elite list comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, among others. From the current lot, only three players MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have more appearances than him.
