Shikhar Dhawan dismissed by Ashan Priyanjan

Nov 2, 2014

Shikhar Dhawan was bowled by Ashan Priyanjan in the 35th over after he scored 113 runs from 107 balls in the first ODI played against Sri Lanka. Dhawan had earlier completed his century. India were 231 for one after 35 overs and Suresh Raina came in to bat at No. 3.

Rahane and Dhawan brought up their 50-run stand for the opening wicket in the 11th over, as the two continued to score easily without much trouble from the Sri Lankan bowlers. Both Rahane and Dhawan shrugged off a slow start and hit a couple of fours to put ip a strong platform for a big score. They  did look a little rusty at the beginning, but have settled down well.

Early in the match, Sri Lanka bowlers have been impressive with the line and length, with the debutant Lahiru Gamage bowling a maiden over to Dhawan. The left-handed India opener did not look comfortable at the crease, having being beaten couple of times early on in the game.

However, it was Dhawan who struck the first four for India, hitting it down the ground off Dhammika Prasad in the third over. The opening batsman improvised after a sedate start and hit a couple of fours. In the seventh over, Kumar Sangakkara spilled a tough chance to give Dhawan a lifeline off Prasad.

Earlier in the day, Angelo Mathews won the toss, and Sri Lanka have elected to bowl first. Ravindra Jadeja has been rested.
