Pakistan batsman, Shoaib Malik on Tuesday credited his mother for the comeback century he scored against England on Day 1 of the first of the three-match Test series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. It was his ton that put Pakistan on top on Day 1 and helped them from going down to the English bowlers. Malik, who remains unbeaten on 124 is batting brillaintly and seems to be in a real good touch. Apart from crediting his mother, he also wished that if his father was there with him at this date to enjoy the brilliant knock he scored. Earlier, after hitting a patient century on Test comeback, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik also credited his wife Sania Mirza for his success in international cricket since his recall to the national side this year. Making his first Test appearance since August 2010, Malik remained unbeaten on 124 at the end of the opening day’s play in the first match against England in Abu Dhabi. The century was a continuation of the success Malik has enjoyed since being recalled to the national T20 and than ODI squads this year. “I think there was pressure on me to also perform as a professional sportsman after Sania’s outstanding success in recent times on the tennis court,” Malik told a private channel, reported PTI.

Malik added an invaluable 168 for the second wicket with opener Mohammad Hafeez who missed his century by two runs after Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat on a flat pitch which is expected to take turn on the last two days, reports AFP.

 

 

Malik, who has been averaging 100 in one-day cricket this year — form which earned him a recall in the longer format — has so far hit 14 boundaries in his 230-ball patient knock, also AFP reports.
