The Indian Premier League 2025 Qualifier-2 match in Ahmedabad witnessed a late start because of rain constantly interrupting the proceeding. During this match, both Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya got fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their respective team’s slow over-rate.
Shreyas Iyer was given a fine of Rs. 24 lakh since this was his team’s second time doing this offence under the IPL Code of Conduct. The matter gets worse for Hardik Pandya, as he was given a fine of Rs. 30 lakh as this was the third time Mumbai Indians had done this offence.
“As it was his teamâs second offence of the season under the IPLâs Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs,” an IPL statement read.
“Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has also been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate. As it was his teamâs third offence of the season under the IPLâs Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 Lakh,” it added.
Apart from Shreyas and Hardik, rest of the Punjab Kings members from the playing XI were each fined either Rs. 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fee, whichever is lesser. Mumbai Indians players from the XI were each given a penalty of Rs. 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their match fee.
Coming to the match, Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 41-ball-87 and helped Punjab Kings knock-out the five-time champions Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the Qualifier 2 to enter the final of the Indian Premier League in its 18th season. PBKS, who last played a final in 2014, will meet four-time finalists Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday, June 3.
