Shreyas Iyer has scored a belligerent double hundred against Punjab in a second round clash of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16. His knock has heavily strengthened Mumbai’s position in the game. His milestone came up in the 175th delivery he faced. The best feature of his knock was that he maintained a steady strike-rate of about 115 through his innings. With his knock Mumbai’s first innings lead has swelled to over 170 runs. Iyer was given great backing in his knock by Suryakumar Yadav who scored 78 off 162 deliveries before getting out to Sarbjeet Ladda. UPDATES: MUMBAI vs PUNJAB, Ranji Trophy 2015-16, Day Two
Mumbai are primed for an outright victory in this match. They will now look to give the innings a final blast to make the lead as imposing for Punjab as possible. Iyer is now accompanied by Aditya Tare at the crease who is also capable of scoring quick. Mumbai will be extremely pleased with position in the match at this point and will want to grab the opportunity to make up for their disappointing first game.
It was a hard day for the Punjab bowlers. Siddarth Kaul bowled 15 overs for a single wicket, while Barinder Singh sent down 17 for the same number. Ladda got the wicket of Yadav. Mumbai’s openers in Shrideep Mangela and Akhil Herwadkar were dismissed cheaply but Iyer’s effort ensured that Mumbai gained a big lead.
