Sir Elton John will grace Derbyshire County Cricket Club with his performance next year. John is to play in an open-air concert in the County Ground on June 4, 2016 (Sunday). John will be performing here after a big gap of 38 years. This announcement is expected to create a buzz around the town as the Oscar award winner John will play songs from his latest album. The 69-year-old also payed tribute by singing  his 1974 hit ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’ in November, 2014 in the middle of a concert to Australian player Phil Hughes who died following a nasty blow to the head off Sean Abott’s bouncer at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). He also supported Abott as he said that the incident ‘wasn’t his fault’. ALSO READ: Elton John dedicates song to Phil Hughes and voices support for Sean Abbott

“It’s sure to be a highlight of Derby’s summer calendar and it’s the perfect curtain raiser to the ICC Women’s World Cup that comes to Derby later the same month. This is the kind of event that will continue to make Derby an economic powerhouse and will strengthen the city’s prosperity for years to come. It can make a positive impact to the local community, boosting the local economy and creating job opportunities for local people.”
