SL vs WI 2nd T20I: West Indies fall for Sri Lanka’s spin attack, lose by 73 runs

After their chase of high runs in the first T20I, West Indies batters fall for the spin from Sri Lankan players, as they got bowled out for 89. Only three batters managed to score double digits, along with four batters who failed to even have any hit in the chase of 163.

Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to bat first. On a ground which came out good for spinners, Sri Lankan openers shared a partnership of 77 runs in 10 overs. Kusal Perera had a 16-ball knock of 24, before shortly getting dismissed by Josepy. Nissanka reached his half century in the 16th over with just 37 balls.

Skipper Asalanka failed to score numbers and got bowled out pretty quickly. Kamindu Mendis played a game of 14-ball 19. His wicket was taken by Shephers during the last over. Hasaranga finished he innings with a boundary, boosting the team’s confidence and posting a total of 162/5.

Dunith Wellalage took a wicket-maiden of Brandon King in the third over. Maheesh Theekshana then dismissed Evin Lewis LBW while his score was just 7 runs in 13 balls. Wellalage then got Roston Chase for a three-ball duck in his second over. West Indies was 21/3 after powerplay/ Wallalage continued to reek havoc and dismissed Andre Fletcher for just 4 runs in 11 balls.

Gudakesh Motie was moved up in the order, but got bowled by skipper Asalanka nonetheless. He dismissed Rutherford in the same over as well. The visitors were at 40/6 by the time match was halfway done. Hasaranga came to attack and got Shephers in front of the wickets. Hasaranga’s second over was a bit expensive as he had 2 Fours and 1 Six hit against him, though it was nowhere near close for West Indies to reach the target. Mattheesha Pathirana sent Powell back, as he scored 20 off 17 balls. Theekshana then took Joseph’s wicket, bowling out West Indies for just 89.
