SLPL winner will compete in CLT20: SLC

Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday said the winner of its domestic Twenty20 tournament, which BCCI views as an event being organised by a private party, will compete in the Champions League T20 qualifiers.
BCCI had refused permission to 12 Indian cricketers for participating in the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) on the ground that the event was not owned by the Sri Lanka Board (SLC).
SLC had rejected BCCI’s claim and declared that the SLPL was very much owned by them and are deliberating over the rejection of permission to Indian players.
“As far as SLC is concerned, it is the winner of the SLPL that will play in the CLT20,” SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga told website ESPNcricinfo.
Now it remains to be seen what stand BCCI takes with regard to participation of the Sri Lankan team in the Champions League Twenty20.
SLPL is only T20 domestic tournament in Sri Lanka as it had replaced the previous event.
Champions League, the third edition of which is scheduled to be held from September 23 to October 9, is a joint venture of BCCI, Cricket Australia and South Africa.
A record 13 teams are set to compete this season and six teams will compete to claim three spot through a qualifying event.
Sri Lanka’s domestic T20champions along with teams from India, New Zealand, West Indies and England will compete in the qualifiers from September 19 to 21.
