Playing for Bangladesh against Scotland in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 encounter at Nelson, Soumya Sarkar caught Hamish Gardiner at cover off Taskin Ahmed, Preston Mommsen and Kyle Coetzer — both at deep mid-wicket off Nasir Hossain, and an outstanding catch at deep square-leg to dismiss Majid Haq off Shakib Al Hasan. As Scotland raced to 318 for eight and Coetzer registered the first hundred in World Cup cricket for Scotland, Sarkar emulated the record held by Mohammad Kaif — that of most catches in a World Cup cricket innings by a non-wicketkeeper. In all, there have been 30 occasions where a non-wicketkeeper has pouched three or more catches. Clive Lloyd was the first to do so, against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford on June 7, 1975 — the first day in the history of World Cup cricket. Virender Sehwag (against Netherlands at Paarl and against England at Durban, both in ICC World Cup 2003) is the only non-wicketkeeper to have taken three catches in a World Cup cricket match twice.
