Team India  have been on a roll in the ongoing South Africa tour. They lost the three-match Test series but gave South Africa a run for their money. They turned the tides emphatically in the ODI series, winning it 5-1. At present, they lead the three T20Is (0-1). In (almost) all their victories, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has played a vital role. He has been aggressive, constantly backing the boys, and made plethora of runs as well. Sourav Ganguly lauded his approach, and labelled him as the flag-bearer of Indian cricket. Further more, Ganguly claimed that while he has seen purple patches — including his own — Kohli’s efforts should be reckoned as ‘genuine greatness’.

Ganguly told Times Now, “Kohli is a flag bearer of Indian cricket. I have seen a lot of purple patches including mine, Dravid’s and Sachin Tendulkar’s. I genuinely believe that this is not just a purple patch for Kohli, this is genuine greatness. Kohli has done brilliantly. Overseas Test series wins will come – the only places he has captained India in full series are West Indies and South Africa,” he added.

Upcoming challenges

“The next two series in Australia and England will define him as a captain. I have seen MS Dhoni captain, I have seen Rahul Dravid captain but I have never seen anyone perform this consistently with the bat as captain as Kohli has,” concluded Ganguly.

India play two more T20Is before wrapping up a successful South Africa tour.
