Sourav Ganguly: Playing alongside Virender Sehwag was a huge moment for me

Kolkata:  Describing Virender Sehwag as a cricket great, former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday said playing alongside the former dashing opener was a highlight of his career. “Sehwag is definitely one of the greats of the game and an absolute champion player. It was a huge moment for me playing alongside him. I wish him all the best for the life beyond cricket,” said Ganguly. The only Indian triple centurion, an emotional Sehwag on Tuesday credited Ganguly for bringing out the Test player in him.”Ganguly sacrificed his opening spot for me, he loved me and had confidence in me. So, thank you Sourav, I am grateful to you. You saw me as a Test player. Had I not played in Tests, I would not have scored these so many runs,” the right-hander had said on Tuesday.

Add Cricket Country as a Preferred Source

Sehwag’s former opening partner Gautam Gambhir told PTI, “He (Sehwag) is India’s greatest opening batsman and match winner. There won’t be another player like Sehwag. Because you would rarely find someone with such an uncluttered and uncomplicated mind. There won’t be many who would stick to his style in times of failure…Look most of ordinary mortals have self doubts when they face crisis but Viru never felt that he needed to change anything. Trust me it’s not easy for anybody and everybody in today’s world where there is such intense media scrutiny. Till his last day in competitive cricket, he stuck to his self belief.”
