Harbhajan Singh, who is one of the biggest cricketers in Indian cricket and is currently out from national side across the formats, recently made some controversial statements over current state of Test pitches in India. As per Harbhajan, had he and current head coach Anil Kumble played on such pitches on which Tests are currently being played very often in India, the duo would have had more wickets than it has now. Harbhajan has more than 400 wickets to his name, while Kumble has scalped above 600 Test wickets. Such statements from Harbhajan made him receive some criticism and now Sourav Ganguly has joined the bandwagon of those critics. Full Cricket Scorecard: India vs England 1st Test at Rajkot

While talking to ESPNCricinfo, Ganguly suggested Harbhajan to stay calm and said, He (Harbhajan) has got to take it easy. He s been a champion bowler, and he should move ahead. On the other hand, Ganguly also supported Ravichandran Ashwin by adding that it’s not his fault that he got to play on such pitches. I know some of the (current) pitches are square turners but that s not Ashwin s fault. Ashwin has got those pitches to bowl on and he had bowled well on it, said Ganguly. Ashwin has been India’s main bowler, when it comes to playing in subcontinent conditions. He has done exceedingly well with his bowling for India in recent times.

Ganguly further praised Harbhajan and his achievements by saying, “Harbhajan is a great bowler and has been a great servant for India and he should not bother about these things. I know if he had got some of the recent pitches to bowl on, Harbhajan would have got 40 more wickets, but he did not but it doesn t make him a lesser bowler than anybody.”

Besides all this, even Ashwin too opened up recently on this topic and called it ‘unhealthy’ and tweeted in support of Harbhajan by writing that he is an inspiration and the reason why he took up off-spin.
