There was a time when the Australian cricket team losing a game of cricket was a very rare sight. Such was the consistency with which the Australian team played that it would take an extraordinary effort to beat them. However, times have changed. The current Australian team is no more an invincible side. In the current year, they have been whitewashed in all the formats. Starting with the newest format, the Australians were whitewashed 3-0 by India in their own backyard in January this year. Later, they were blanked 3-0 by Sri Lanka in Tests away from their home and recently, when they went to South Africa for a bilateral One-Day International (ODI) series, they were for the first time thrashed 5-0 in the format.

And now it seems there is no end to their miseries. The format has changed, but their fortunes refuses to, as the same South African side has beaten them in the first Test of the three-match series. Worse, the loss has come in their own backyard at Perth. South Africa continued with their domination over Australian by winning the first Test at WACA by 177 runs. The architects of this win were Quinton de Kock, with his fifties in both the innings, Dean Elgar and JP Duminy with their second innings-ton and the Protea bowling attack, which shined collectively. Despite losing Dale Steyn to an injury and playing virtually with 10-men, South Africa played commendably well to script a famous win on Australian soil.

There were plenty of reactions to their stupendous effort and Australia s misery on the social media space. We bring to you some of the top tweets in this regard:
