In the second Test between Zimbabwe and South Africa at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, on July 20, the visitors secured a dominant win. Skipper Wiaan Mulder played a historic knock of 367 in his debut innings as Test captain, helping South Africa seal victory by an innings and 236 runs, and clinch the series 2-0. The win also saw South Africa register a major record to their name.
Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine won the toss and decided to bowl first, but this decision backfired on his team. South Africa did not have a good start, they lost the first 2 wickets for 24 runs. But after this, Wiaan Mulder and David Bedingham handled the innings by making a partnership of 204 runs for the third wicket. After this, Mulder also made a partnership of more than 200 runs with Lhuan-Dre Pretorius, which helped South Africa scored 626 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their first innings.
South Africa’s captain Wiaan Mulder was the hero of this victory. He became the first captain to score a triple century in his first Test match as captain. After his innings, the bowlers also performed brilliantly. Zimbabwe managed only 170 runs in their first innings. Forced to follow on, they batted again but were bowled out for 220, resulting in a heavy defeat.
With this win, the current world test champion South Africa has made a big record. This is their 10th consecutive win in test matches. South Africa has won 10 consecutive test matches for the first time. They have been playing test matches since 1889, but they have never been able to do this before. At the same time, in the history of test cricket, they are the third team to win 10 consecutive test matches. Before this, Australia and South Africa have done this feat. Australia has won 16-16 matches in a row twice. At the same time, West Indies has won 11 matches.
