South Africa dedicate win over England to Mark Boucher

South Africa has dedicated the series victory against England to former wicketkeeper Mark Boucher, who suffered a freak injury to his eye just before the series.

 

South Africa drubbed the hosts 2-0 to clinch the series and regain No 1 position in ICC Test Rankings.

 

Skipper Graeme Smith said after the match that the team wanted to win the series for Boucher.

 

“It was a tribute from the team. It was meant to be his 150th Test. He’s been an integral part of the Proteas family for so long and it was something as a team we felt we wanted to do,” Smith was quoted as saying by Sports24.

 

Smith even wrote “We miss you Bouch” on his shirt.

 

Boucher was quick to respond to the warm gesture of his former captain and other teammates.

 

“Thnx @GraemeSmith49, the Proteas squad and 2 all the messages from everyone! That was a special touch! Proud to have been apart of that squad,” Boucher wrote on Twitter.

 

Boucher had played 147 Tests and effected 999 international dismissals behind the stumps when he got injured. The series against England would have allowed him to complete 150 Test matches.
