South Africa and England clash on the second day of the ongoing first Test at the Kingsmead in Durban on Sunday, with England resuming from their overnight score of 179 for the loss of four wickets. Electing to bat after winning the toss, England were done in by a lethal spell by Dale Steyn, who returns to the side after recovering from the groin injury that he had sustained during the tour of India last month. England skipper Cook, who is currently the highest run-getter in the year so far, was dismissed for an 11-ball duck, edging a Steyn delivery to Dean Elgar in the slips. Alex Hales, who has been awarded his Test debut in this match as well as the opener’s slot alongside Cook, was next to depart for 11, also off Steyn’s bowling. Dane Piedt removed Joe Root, with the scorecard reading a disastrous 49 for three, before Nick Compton and James Taylor rallied to save England out of their trouble. The duo added 125 runs for the fourth wicket, though Steyn managed to remove Taylor for 70 just before stumps, leaving the South African-born Compton batting on 63 at the end of the day.
