South Africa and England face off on the fourth day of the ongoing second Test at the Newlands in Cape Town on Tuesday. After getting minced by the England middle-order duo of Ben Stokes (258 off 198) and Jonny Bairstow (150 off 191 balls), the hosts managed to put up a fitting reply to the visitors to finish on 353 for the loss of three wickets. Skipper Hashim Amla led the way with the bat, breaking his dry form with the bat to remain unbeaten on 157 off 371 balls in a resilient innings, accompanied by gritty knocks from AB de Villiers (88 off 211) and Faf du Plessis (51 not out off 115 balls). The Proteas lost the wicket of Stiaan van Zyl (4 off 12) early once again. Dean Elgar, who had struck a valiant ton in the first Test at Durban, scored 44 and shared 78 for the second wicket before getting dismissed by the first innings hero Stokes. Amla and de Villiers once again played a resilient innings with the bat, adding 183 for the third wicket while tiring the opposition bowling attack out with the steady batsmanship. Du Plessis too got back in form in style when his team desperately needed him to fire with the bat, getting to his half-century moments before the umpires called for the close of play for the Proteas to reach a position of command heading into Day Four. The England new-ball pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad went wicketless on the third day conceding 53 and 54 runs respectively.
