What could have been a really exciting day of cricket has instead ended in a dull day. Apart from Steyn’s thunder, the skies above Durban were thunderous too. The day ends as it started. With rain…

South Africa after putting on what might be a sub-par score (263), might be, needed a terrific start from the pacers. Steyn and Philander have given them that. Rabada has not even come into the attack and NZ are 2 wickets down. With Williamson and Taylor at the crease, it will be a session to watch out for as they clash with more pace, movement and most importantly, swing. Let’s see how the second session goes.

  • 4:16 PM IST

The players will head for Lunch now.

Live: South Africa (263) vs New Zealand 15/2 | Batting: Kane WIlliamson, Ross Taylor 2 2: Batting has been tough. The ball is swinging and it has been tough to score runs on the pitch. While Steyn has been brilliant and got reward for that, Philander has been right on the money as well. He just hasn’t got the outside edge on occasions where he could have.

    And rain stops play again.
  • 4:02 PM IST

Steyn strikes for the second time. Guptill was struck in front by a ball that nipped back in. That would have been plumb. He’s back with a bang, Steyn!

  • 4:00 PM IST

Ross Taylor is the next man in.

  • 3:59 PM IST

OUT! Martin Guptill lbw b Steyn 7(23)

  • 3:48 PM IST

Steyn tempted Latham into the drive, who gets a thick edge, straight to Hashim Amla who takes an easy catch at first slip. Steyn is back!

  • 3:46 PM IST

Kane Williamson is the new man in.

  • 3:45 PM IST

OUT! Tom Latham c Amla b Steyn 4(23)

  • 3:36 PM IST

Live: South Africa (263) vs New Zealand 6/0 | Batting: Tom Latham 3, Martin Guptill 3: Both Steyn and Philander have drawn edges from Latham. The one off Steyn fell short of Elgar and the one off Philander was dropped by him. There has been no boundary until now.

  • 3:26 PM IST

Live: South Africa (263) vs New Zealand 3/0 | Batting: Tom Latham 1, Martin Guptill 2:

Steyn and Philander have begun well here. Some balls have caused trouble to the both the batsmen. Steyn also had a loud shout against Guptill in the first over, was given not out, and SA decided not to review it. Was clipping the leg stump.
  • 3:17 PM IST

Tom Latham and Martin Guptill are the batsmen out in the middle. Steyn to bowl the first over!

  • 3:10 PM IST

Well then, that’s the end of the South African innings. Boult gets figures of 3 for 52. Didn’t take a lot of time for their innings to finish. They have added 27 runs today. There is swing on offer and we’ll have to see how Steyn and co. go about their business. Top-class batting unit in front of them. Should be a good day, only if rain stays away.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates post for the second day’s play between South Africa and New Zealand in the opening Test of their two-match series, at Kingsmead, Durban. South Africa produced an ordinary show with the bat on the opening day, as they reached 236 for 8 by stumps. Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn were occupying the crease, which means that New Zealand will be aiming to fold up the South Africans for a moderate first-innings total. Almost all of South Africa’s batsmen got starts but failed to make most of the opportunity, as New Zealand produced an inspired bowling performance.
