Perera picked up the injury during the third ODI in Durban on Sunday. He hurt his left hamstring while fielding as Sri Lanka lost the rain-affected contest by 71 runs to concede the series.

In a media release on Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said they won’t be sending any replacement for the left-hander. Perera was the star performer for the tourists in South Africa Tests as his 353 runs across five innings including a stunning unbeaten 153 helped them to historic 2-0 series win.

In the five-match series though, Perera managed 41 in two innings as Sri Lanka lost the first three matches and are targeting to reduce the losing margin in the remaining two fixtures to be played on March 13 and 16 in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town respectively.

In the rain-curtailed third ODI, South Africa were powered by an attacking century from opener Quinton de Kock (121) in a total of 331/5 in 50 overs. The target was then revised to 193 in 24 overs after rain delay.

Sri Lanka managed 121/5 in the allotted overs with the hosts winning by 71 runs for an unassailable 3-0 lead.

The ODI series will be followed by a three-match T20I series that gets underway from March 19 in Cape Town.
