Chris Gayle raced past fifty in the first Twenty20 International against South Africa at Cape Town.  Gayle reached the landmark in a record 17 balls carting the South African bowlers to all corners of the park. He has made a mockery of the South African total of 165 which is quickly looking inadequate to say the least. West Indies lost their first wicket, that of Dwayne Smith who subdued in comparison to Gayle with the introduction of Imran Tahir. Smith was dismissed for a run a ball 20. West Indies are 85 for one in eight overs, requiring just over six runs an over for victory now.

Earlier South Africa won the toss and elected to bat on a belter of a pitch at Newlands. South Africa led by Faf du Plessis are missing some big names like AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Jean Paul Duminy due to injury and Quinton de Kock as well due to an injury sustained during the first Test against West Indies at Centurion. The likes of Morne van Wyk and Rilee Rossouw get an opportunity in their absence. The tourists on the other hand are most comfortable in the shortest format of the game. T20I specialists such as Kieron Pollard and Andre Russel return for the West Indies with the addition of arguably the most explosive T20I player of the world – Chris Gayle.
