South Africa have notched up their hundred in the 13th over of their innings in the first Twenty20 International against West Indies at Cape Town. The South Africans struggled in the powerplay overs as West Indies struck two incisive blows. The top openers were dismissed in quick succession as Sheldon Cottrell and Jason Holder struck for the West Indies. Faf du Plessis then took the attack to the West Indies with a cameo of 38 in half the number of balls to inject some momentum into the South African innings.

Earlier South Africa won the toss and elected to bat on a belter of a pitch at Newlands. South Africa led by Faf du Plessis are missing some big names like AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Jean Paul Duminy due to injury and Quinton de Kock as well due to an injury sustained during the first Test against West Indies at Centurion. The likes of Morne van Wyk and Rilee Rossouw get an opportunity in their absence. The tourists on the other hand are most comfortable in the shortest format of the game. T20I specialists such as Kieron Pollard and Andre Russel return for the West Indies with the addition of arguably the most explosive T20I player of the world – Chris Gayle.
