Dwayne Smith slammed a quick half-century to provide some stability to trotting West Indies team after they lost two quick wickets early in the innings in the second One-Day International (ODI) played against South Africa at Johannesburg on Sunday. A small partnership between Smith and Marlon Samuels kept West Indies in hunt to chase the gigantic total put up by South Africa. South Africa were 103 for two after 18.5 overs.

Two wickets fell quickly as Leon Johnson was dismissed leg-before by Vernon Philander in the 10th over. Johnson’s poor form continued as he was out after scoring a single run. In the last ODI he was dismissed for duck. Chris Gayle was dismissed by Morne Morkel in the fifth over of the match as he tried to pull but was caught by Farhaan Behardien at deep mid-wicket.Morne Morkel created an early chance as Dwayne Smith was caught on third-man but later it was adjudged as a no-ball.

Earlier, South Africa managed to reach a gigantic total of 439 for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 50 overs in the second One-Day International (ODI) played against West Indies at Johannesburg on Sunday. AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw got to their respective centuries.

De Villiers swashbuckling knock of 149 off 44 balls overshadowed sublime innings played by Amla and Rossouw. The last 10 overs of the South African innings were very costly as they went for 163 runs which took the tide towards South Africa.
