SA Women crush IRE Women by 8 wickets in warm-up match ahead of Quadrangular series

South Africa Women thrashed Ireland Women by 8 wickets with 22.4 overs to spare in the warm-up match at Potchefstroom ahead of the Quadrangular series, which will also feature teams from India and Zimbabwe. South Africa made early inroads into the Irish batting line-up. Ireland had lost three wickets before the 10th over and were already under early pressure. Irish skipper Laura Delany led from the front as she put up a crucial 49-run stand for the fourth wicket with Shauna Kavanagh. Laura held up one end and top-scored with 67 off 101, which included 10 fours. Marizanne Kapp and Sane Luus were the pick of the bowlers for South Africa finishing with two wickets apiece. South Africa had very little trouble chasing down 158. Lizelle Lee and Laura got them off to a brilliant start, putting up 54 for the first wicket itself. Laura remained unbeaten on 57 and added a further 94 runs for the third wicket with Mignon du Preez. Shauna picked up the two South African wickets to fall. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Ireland Women would have hoped to put up a competitive score on the board. However, they will learn from their mistakes and make sure that they do not repeat them in the quadrangular series, which begins from Sunday.
South Africa on the other hand will be happy with their performance and hope they can repeat this sort of performance when the four-nation series gets underway.
