Sri Lanka are going steady against the West Indies on day 1 in the 1st Test at Galle. Before going for tea, the hosts have reached 141/2, losing Silva and Thirimanne. Opener Karunaratne is firmly proceeding towards his third Test hundred. He is playing on 82 and is getting good company from Chandima, who is playing on 18. Sri Lankans have done well after winning the toss in the morning and opting to bat first. Their openers Karunaratne and Silva played cautiously in the first hour or so and got the team to a good start, before Silva perished few overs before the lunch break. Both added 56 runs for the first wicket.

Karunaratne then continued with his innings and added 45 runs for the second wicket with Thirimanne. Just when the duo looked set for a big partnership, Thirimanne was dismissed trying to hit Bishoo over the mid-wicket. He was caught by the substitute fielder R Chandrika in his second effort. He scored 16 after facing 62 balls. Chandimal then joined Karunaratne and the two have since added 40 runs. It is important for them to continue the way they are going at the moment, so that Sri Lanka can post a good total on the board. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Sri Lanka vs West Indies 2015, 1st Test at Galle, Day 1

If we talk about West Indies’ bowling, Taylor and Roach were good initially. But both failed to make early inroads, as the Lankan pair went on to add 56 runs for the first wicket. Gabriel and Holder too failed to pick up a wicket early on. Bishoo was introduced quite late in the innings and picked up a wicket pretty early. It was surprising to see Samuels get a ball before him. LIVE CRICKET BLOG: Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 1st Test at Galle, Day 1
