The visitors face another batting collapse. Sri Lanka failed to live up to expectations as they bundled out for 101 runs under 43.3 overs. Chris Woakes, James Anderson, Stuart Broad bowled brilliantly well to wrap up the Sri Lankan innings quickly on Day 3. Broad took 4 wickets , Woakes and Anderson picked up 3 wickets each to stage another batting disaster for Sri Lanka. They were 91 for 8 on Day 2, Stumps and it took them less than a session to end their first innings and move towards yet another follow on in the series. This will be their second consecutive follow on in this series. Sri Lanka came here with  an inexperienced side, but a poor show of batting and bowling was not expected from them. England bowlers bowled brilliantly with the new ball with James Anderson drawing first blood on Day 2. It was followed by Broad and Woakes fiery spell to put pressure on the visitors. They picked up three wickets each on Day 2. On Day 3 Broad sent tailender Suranga Lakmal packing as he tries to work the ball towards cover area. Thirimanne tries to pull off a Moeen Ali in order to score runs at brisk rate and fails miserably. He takes a long walk back to the pavilion after scoring 19. At first, they put up a good innings score of 498 for 9 declared with contributions from Moeen Ali, Alex Hales and Joe Root. Ali played his career best innings of 155 not out. Hales and Root scored 83 and 80 respectively to take England out of trouble due to faulty start from top order. It will be highly unlikely that we see skipper Alastair Cook reach 10,000 runs in this Test match as Sri Lanka are heading towards a defeat by an innings and a few runs.

Brief Scores: England 498 for 9 dec ( Moeen Ali 155, Nuwan Pradeep 4 for 107) lead Sri Lanka 101 all out ( Kusal Mendis 35, Stuart Broad 4 for 40) by 397 runs.
